The inspiration for this piece came from a large clump of Black Bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra) in my garden. Black Bamboo is monocarpic and had flowered in 2023 and was slowly beginning the die back process.

I saw so much beauty in its tall and beautifully marked culms, I had to create something from it and natures rich colour palette.

Gather brings together the found and foraged. Plant fibres gathered from my garden, hedgerow and river in my locality were prepared and woven into textural panels. Each panel punctuated by Bamboo. The entire piece is strung  on a single length of Black Bamboo and woven onto Jute dyed with Loquat leaves for warmth and an Iron Mordant for depth.
